Margaret Waringa

Kibera, Kenya

Margaret lives in Nairobi with her two children, one of whom - Evans aged 17 - has albinism. Margaret is currently unemployed and does odd jobs to support her family. She was one of twenty members of the Albinism Society of Kenya (ASK) who received embroidery training in the summer of 2021 to make stories for the Kenyan Albinism Quilts. Margaret’s story showed a mother holding her infant, who has albinism, with love and pride. She is associated with Shield of Faith, the women’s association in Kibera that formed to organize embroidery training and has branched out to take on social problems. She credits the trainings with having taught her a new skill and introduced her to other mothers.
