Mavis, 17, lives in Epworth, Zimbabwe with her parents and four younger siblings. Mavis is active in the program run by Women Advocacy Project to empower girls through embroidery and soap, although she has not participated in producing stories for WAP's advocacy quilts and only came to embroidery in the summer of 2022. Money is a major challenge for Mavis’s family and she lives in constant fear that her parents will not be able to pay her school fees. If she can continue her education, as she hopes, Mavis hopes to become a journalist.
