Abi Konate

Bamako, Mali

Abi Konate is a professional tailor and impassioned advocate for women’s rights. She served as the principal trainer for an ambitious program to train and empower over 600 women who were assaulted and expelled by rebels from northern Mali between 2014 and 2017. In 2017, Abi helped the artists to describe life in their former villages and turned these into the beautiful bags seen on this page. Abi lent her skills to empowering women during the worst months of the pandemic and trained five young survivors from the north to repair and make clothes. She asks that profits from the bags are invested in a new training program for women.
