Spencer Moraa

Kangemi, Nairobi, Kenya

Spencer, 23, works as a mentor for young girls in the informal settlement of Kangemi, Nairobi. She came to embroidery by describing the lock-down of schools for the Kenyan COVID Quilts project and followed up with a rhino for the Sister Artists 2 challenge which was quilted by Peg Sullivan in Massachusetts and auctioned. The best thing about embroidery, she says, is the way it helps her to make new friends. She is also active in the Kangemi Advocacy and Self Help Group which formed in 2020 to organize embroidery training and launched a highly successful vaccination campaign in the settlement.
